- Why
- GA4 has recorded no data since it was disconnected on 2 May 2026. Every later gain needs to be tied to inquiries, not only to rankings and clicks
- Expected impact
- No direct ranking effect. Makes inquiry reporting possible
- Expected timeframe
- 1 to 2 weeks
- What can be measured
- Events recording correctly. PageSpeed baseline for the homepage, a service page, an industry page and a blog post
Executive action plan
Urban Complex refreshed its website in August 2026. The seven primary service pages and the Industries pages were created or reworked in that refresh, and the existing pages and informational blog posts were updated to the new content direction. This plan builds on the refreshed site. It does not replace any of it. The four steps below are in the order we recommend starting.
What to do first
- Why
- Tenant improvement searches show 18.2K impressions but only 7 clicks. The guides already rank and can feed the service page
- Expected impact
- More guide readers reaching the service page. Higher impressions and clicks on that page
- Expected timeframe
- 3 to 5 weeks of work. Effect in 2 to 4 months
- What can be measured
- TI service page impressions, clicks and position in Search Console
- Why
- Commercial contractor searches sit at positions 10 to 12, and several pages that already rank earn few clicks (the Services hub has 814 impressions at position 5.8)
- Expected impact
- Better click-through on pages that already rank. Movement of the commercial terms toward stable page one
- Expected timeframe
- 3 to 6 weeks. Click-through effect within weeks, positions in 2 to 4 months
- What can be measured
- Click-through rate, clicks and position for the commercial terms and the updated pages
- Why
- Profile calls fell month by month in Q3 (about 18, 8, 6). There are 6 reviews at a 3.8 rating
- Expected impact
- Stronger local trust and a better chance of recovering call volume
- Expected timeframe
- 2 to 4 weeks of work. Builds over 3 to 6 months
- What can be measured
- Calls, reviews, rating and profile interactions in the Business Profile dashboard
After these four steps, the plan continues with further optimizing the remaining primary service and Industries pages using current search data, state and city content, performance optimization, authority building and AI visibility tracking (sections 15 and 17).
What can realistically be expected
First 30 to 60 days: the changes are in place and measurable through click-through rate and early position movement on the pages that were refined.
3 to 6 months: position, impression and non-brand click gains for the tenant improvement and commercial general contractor searches, and the first effect of local profile work.
Inquiries: form and call inquiries from search can be reported once GA4 is reconnected and tracking has been tested.
Early baseline: the refreshed pages have had only a short search history. Timeframes are planning ranges, not guarantees, because results depend on competition and on Google's own timing.
1Executive summary
About the website refresh
Urban Complex refreshed its website in August 2026. The seven primary service pages (Tenant Improvements, Restoration and Insurance Put-Back, Service Calls and Maintenance, Special Projects, Ground-Up Construction, ADU Construction and Multifamily Renovations) and the Industries pages were created or reworked. Existing pages and informational blog posts were updated to the new content direction, and pages for markets the company no longer serves were removed. Q2 therefore reflects the previous site content, and Q3 spans the August update. The refreshed pages are at an early SEO baseline: they have not yet had a full search growth period, so their Q3 visibility is a starting point and not a verdict on the pages. The recommendations below refine and build on the refreshed site.
Trash Out Services. Trash Out Services was launched after the Q3 reporting period and therefore is not included in the Q3 performance baseline; it will be tracked from the next reporting period.
Urban Complex is visible for its own name and for a handful of commercial and tenant improvement searches. It is not yet visible enough for the services and markets that bring in new project work, which is expected this soon after a refresh. Organic visibility fell from Q2 to Q3, and most clicks come from people already searching for the company. The strategy focuses on the searches that are already close to page one, the pages that hold the most unrealized demand, and the refinements that help the refreshed site be found and understood.
What the data shows
Visibility fell, mainly outside the core pages. Impressions dropped 38% (195K to 121K), clicks dropped 16% (891 to 748) and average position moved from 14.3 to 21.5 between Q2 and Q3.
The drop is concentrated. About 93% of the 74K lost impressions came from five URLs: three informational blog posts and two pages for markets the company no longer serves, which were removed deliberately in the refresh. The refreshed service and industry pages did not drive the decline.
Clicks are mostly brand. The homepage delivers 358 of 748 clicks (48%). Almost all attributed query clicks are branded searches such as "urban complex" and "urban complex general contractor llc".
Real demand sits in two places. Tenant improvement searches produced 18.2K impressions but only 7 clicks. Commercial contractor searches already sit at positions 10 to 12.
Refreshed service and industry pages are at an early baseline. Most draw fewer than 420 impressions a quarter, and the four primary services Restoration, Service Calls, Special Projects and Ground-Up draw under 45 each. This is the starting point for growth, measured over the coming quarters.
Business Profile calls are falling. 32 calls in Q3, 11.1% below the same period last year, and dropping each month: about 18 in July, 8 in August and 6 in September.
There is a performance optimization opportunity. Crawl data shows room to reduce image and page weight. PageSpeed Insights results will be recorded as a baseline before any change is made (section 9).
Inquiry reporting depends on Analytics. GA4 data is not available for this period. We will reconnect it, then test form, button, email-link and call-button tracking.
What we recommend, in order
Reconnect GA4, test form, button, email-link and call-button tracking and set conversion events, so every later gain can be tied to inquiries. Record a PageSpeed Insights baseline.
Strengthen the tenant improvement cluster by linking the strong guides to the TI service page and refining its title, meta description and call to action.
Refine the pages that carry the commercial general contractor terms already at positions 10 to 12 (the Commercial Properties page and the homepage), and strengthen internal links to them.
Shorten blog titles, refine weak or duplicate meta descriptions and strengthen internal linking from the homepage, Services hub and blogs.
Update the Business Profile and third-party profiles to match the current full-service positioning, and build a steady review process.
Strengthen the state pages, starting with Arizona.
Further optimize the remaining refreshed primary services (Restoration and Insurance Put-Back, Service Calls and Maintenance, Special Projects, Ground-Up Construction, ADU Construction and Multifamily Renovations) using current search data, and expand supporting content.
Pursue the performance optimization opportunity: compress images, reduce page weight and validate with PageSpeed Insights.
Retitle, link and broaden the informational blog posts.
Build authority through relevant listings and features, and track AI search visibility.
Tidy the secondary services (pool resurfacing, fence, painting) alongside the work above.
Multifamily remains an important business category and its pages and content are optimized as part of this work. The order above reflects where current search data shows the largest near-term opportunity. Timeframes, essential versus optional actions and measures of progress are in sections 15, 17 and 18.
2Current rankings for key services and target markets
Search performance, Q3 against Q2
| Metric | Q2 (Apr to Jun) | Q3 (Jul to Sep) | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clicks | 891 | 748 | -16% |
| Impressions | 195K | 121K | -38% |
| Average CTR | 0.5% | 0.6% | +0.1 pt |
| Average position | 14.3 | 21.5 | 7.2 positions lower |
Source: Google Search Console, Web search, 1 July to 30 September 2026 against 1 April to 30 June 2026.
Q2 reflects the previous site content and Q3 spans the August update. The change is mainly the effect of informational blog posts and pages for markets no longer served (section 6). Average position is also affected by the mix of pages: broad informational pages that ranked widely fell away, while the refreshed pages are only beginning to build search history.
Trash Out Services was launched after the Q3 reporting period and therefore is not included in the Q3 performance baseline; it will be tracked from the next reporting period.
Rankings by service theme (Q3)
| Theme | What Search Console shows | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial general contractor | "commercial contractor": 3,267 impressions at position 10.1. "commercial general contracting": position 11.0. "commercial general contractor": position 11.8. Over the last three months, most impressions for commercial terms went to the informational guide "what is a commercial contractor and how to hire one" (10,112 impressions), with the TI service page at 931 | On the edge of page one, but the impressions sit mainly on an informational guide and not on a service page. The nearest opportunity for new project inquiries |
| Tenant improvement | TI searches: 18.2K impressions, 7 clicks. TI service page: 2,973 impressions at position 31.3 (Q2: 3,956 impressions at position 22.8) | Large demand. The service page is still early in its search life while the guides carry most of the impressions |
| TI guides | Tenant improvements vs renovations: 16,166 impressions, position 13.0, 29 clicks. Allowances guide: 3,857 impressions, position 15.5. Comprehensive guide: 7,626 impressions, position 58.9 | Guides rank. They can send readers to the TI service page through stronger internal links |
| Multifamily | Most multifamily searches rank between positions 20 and 60 | Multifamily remains an important category and will be supported alongside the higher-demand opportunities |
| AI-style prompts | Long, question-style searches (for example about apartment renovation vendors for portfolio managers in Austin) show the site at positions 2 to 8 with no clicks | Early sign that the content is relevant to how AI tools phrase searches |
Target markets
The site has eight state pages: Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Washington (Washington State). The ones that appear among the site's top pages in Q3:
| Page | Clicks | Impressions | Average position |
|---|---|---|---|
| Texas | 27 | 7,261 | 40.2 |
| Locations | 27 | 6,071 | 42.4 |
| Washington | 18 | 5,393 | 30.5 |
All three sit on page three to five. Local demand shows up at city level: tenant improvement searches in Salt Lake City, Glendale and Peoria (Arizona), and searches across Texas cities including Dallas, Austin and Houston. City-level sections on the existing state pages are a natural next step. The current state page content will be reviewed first, and city sections added only where a city is not already covered.
3Pages performing well
| Page | Q3 result | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Homepage | 358 clicks, 11,962 impressions, position 20.1 | Branded searches. Little non-brand demand |
| Our Team | 76 clicks, position 4.1 | Branded and name searches |
| Services hub | 814 impressions, position 5.8 | Ranks well for broad service searches. Few clicks, so the title and meta can work harder |
| Carport Repair | 913 impressions, position 8.6 | Specific commercial service with low competition |
| Dog Park Installation | 8 clicks, 1,240 impressions, position 9.8 | Specific service with little competition |
| Balcony Repair | 13 clicks, 1,175 impressions, position 20.5, CTR 1.1% | Best click-through of the service pages |
| Texas state page | 27 clicks, 7,261 impressions | Strongest state page by clicks |
| Tenant improvements vs renovations (guide) | 29 clicks, 16,166 impressions, position 13.0 | Answers a real question and sits close to page one |
| Tenant improvement allowances (guide) | 8 clicks, 3,857 impressions, position 15.5 | Strong ranking for an informational search |
| Common plumbing problems in apartments (guide) | 33 clicks, 7,282 impressions, position 8.6 | Top blog for clicks. Informational audience |
Industry pages produced about 8 clicks in total in Q3. They were created or reworked in the refresh, so this is an early baseline for them, not a ceiling. How they grow is covered in section 4.
4Pages with room to grow, and how to grow them
The seven primary service pages and the Industries pages were created or reworked in the August refresh. Their Q3 figures show where they start, not where they are expected to settle. The inner service pages were updated to the new content direction but were not newly created. The tables group the pages by what Q3 shows, so refinements can be matched to each.
Group A: ranking reasonably, with small search volumes
| Page | Q3 impressions | Average position |
|---|---|---|
| Ground-Up Construction | 15 | 9.1 |
| Special Projects | 26 | 11.5 |
| Retail and Mixed Use (industry) | 25 | 11.6 |
| Community Associations (industry) | 134 | 10.8 |
| Appliance Installation | 417 | 11.3 |
These pages already rank on page one or close to it. The impressions are low because the phrases they target have small search volumes (for example ground-up phrases of 20 to 110 searches a month). More visibility here comes from broadening the supporting phrases on the page, linking to them from stronger pages and capturing click-through with better titles, not from pushing positions.
Group B: not yet ranking high enough to earn clicks
| Page | Q3 impressions | Average position |
|---|---|---|
| Tenant Improvement service page | 2,973 | 31.3 (Q2: 22.8) |
| Restoration and Insurance Put-Back | 40 | 31.0 |
| Multifamily Renovations | 92 | 34.2 |
| ADU Construction | 113 | 23.5 |
| Office and Professional Spaces (industry) | 14 | 35.6 |
| Hospitality (industry) | 249 | 26.6 |
| Residential Homeowners (industry) | 11 | 22.6 |
| Commercial Properties (industry) | 41 | 22.1 |
| Pool Resurfacing | 88 | 29.7 |
| Kitchen Remodeling | 118 | 23.6 |
Other pages in this group, between positions 14 and 20, include Assisted Living Renovation (411 impressions), Cabinet Installation (379), Plumbing (240), Exterior Repair (234), Stair Tread Installation (227), HVAC Installation (131), Bathroom Remodeling (124), Painting (123), Roof Repair (114) and Service Calls and Maintenance (27 impressions at position 22.4).
The primary service and industry pages in this group have not had a full SEO growth period. Their positions are an early baseline, and the plan is to measure them from here over the next two to three quarters. The Tenant Improvement service page moved from position 22.8 to 31.3 around the time of the refresh. We expect it to move back toward its Q2 position as the guides link to it and its title, meta description and call to action are refined, although the timing depends on competition.
What will help these pages grow
Supporting content around the page. The inner service pages run 500 to 690 words, while primary service, industry and state pages run 1,700 to 2,300. Expanding supporting content on the shorter pages gives Google more to work with against established competitors.
A clear lead phrase for each page. Of 92 phrases mapped to inner service pages, 35 have a search volume of 0 to 10. These pages benefit from a clear lead phrase and a small set of supporting phrases rather than long lists.
Connecting the TI service page with the site's own guides. The guides hold the impressions while the service page builds history. Links from the guides to the service page will pass readers and relevance across.
Titles and meta descriptions to refine. The Services hub, Locations page and Carport page have short metas, the homepage meta is cut off in results, and the two assisted living pages share an identical meta.
Consistent market wording. Some page headings say "in the USA" and others say "Phoenix, AZ". Each page should state its market in the same way.
Direct refinements
| Page | Refinement |
|---|---|
| Tenant Improvement service page | Keep the length. Tighten the title and meta around "tenant improvement contractors" and "commercial tenant improvement". Add links from all three TI guides and strengthen the consultation call to action. Link back to each guide |
| Commercial Properties industry page and homepage | The Commercial Properties page does not currently use the phrase "commercial general contractor" and its title leads with "Commercial Property Solutions". Refine its title, headings and copy so it also carries the commercial general contractor terms, and strengthen links to it from the homepage, Services hub and the informational guide that holds most of the commercial impressions |
| Services hub and Locations | Refine the short meta descriptions to the right length. Check that every service, industry and state page is linked |
| Carport Repair | Refine the short meta description |
| Assisted living pages | Write a unique meta description for each. The service page keeps renovation phrases, the industry page keeps construction and management phrases |
| Homepage | Shorten the meta to under 155 characters |
| Primary service pages (Restoration, Service Calls, Special Projects, Ground-Up, ADU) | Review title, H1, opening paragraph and headings against the lead phrases in section 5 and refine where they differ. Strengthen links to each from the homepage, the Services hub and relevant blogs |
| State pages | Expand with city sections where demand shows and the city is not already covered (Phoenix area cities and Salt Lake City, then Texas cities and the main Washington State cities). State each market in the same way on every page |
| Industry pages | Review each page against its lead phrases in section 5, strengthen links to each from the Industries hub and relevant services, and expand supporting content where useful |
5Keyword targets by page group
Each page below is aligned to the lead phrases shown (monthly search volume in brackets). Supporting phrases for every page are in the keyword research workbook, which is the working reference for all page updates. Because the primary service and industry pages already exist, these phrases are used to refine titles, headings and supporting content on those pages, not to start new pages.

6Organic traffic trends and quality
Trend. Clicks fell 16% and impressions 38% from Q2 to Q3. The average position moved from 14.3 to 21.5. The decline came mainly from informational blog posts and pages for markets no longer served, not from the refreshed core service and industry pages.
Where clicks come from. Homepage 358 and Our Team 76 (together 58%), blog posts about 130, state and location pages about 95, service pages about 49, industry pages about 8. Service and industry pages are early in their search life after the refresh.
Brand dependence. Of the roughly 265 clicks that Search Console attributes to visible queries, about 235 are branded searches. Non-brand clicks are low.
Geography. The United States accounts for 636 of the 748 clicks.
Content type. The largest blog pools (fence repair cost, pool resurfacing cost, plumbing problems) attract informational searches on topics outside the core commercial services. Their traffic is unlikely to turn into construction inquiries and should not be counted as high-quality traffic.
Engagement and conversion by landing page. Not available for this period, as GA4 data is not available. Once GA4 is reconnected and tracking has been tested, engagement and conversion by landing page will be added to the monthly report.
Where the lost impressions came from
| Page | Q2 impressions | Q3 impressions |
|---|---|---|
| Fence repair cost guide (informational post) | 50,139 | 10,432 |
| Pool resurfacing cost guide (informational post) | 17,641 | 5,952 |
| Page for a market no longer served (A) | 10,585 | Page removed |
| Tenant improvement allowances guide (informational post) | 7,959 | 3,857 |
| Page for a market no longer served (B) | 2,746 | 116 |
These five pages account for roughly 69K of the 74K impressions lost. The decline sits in informational blog posts and in pages for markets the company no longer serves, which were removed on purpose in the refresh. It does not sit in the refreshed service and industry pages.
7Inquiry and conversion data
| Item | Result |
|---|---|
| Calls from Google Business Profile, Q3 2026 | 32 calls, down 11.1% against Jul to Sep 2025 |
| Calls by month | July about 18, August 8, September 6 |
| Total Business Profile interactions | 616 (May to October 2026) |
| Website conversions (forms, clicks to call) | Not available for this period, as GA4 data is not available |
Calls from the profile have fallen each month of the quarter. We will reconnect GA4, then test form, button, email-link and call-button tracking and set conversion events. That will give a complete view of inquiries from search from the next reporting period.
8Local SEO and Google Business Profile
| Item | Current position |
|---|---|
| Profiles | One verified profile: Phoenix, AZ. No profile exists for other markets |
| Reviews | Rating 3.8 from 6 reviews |
| Calls | 32 in Q3, down 11.1% year on year |
| LinkedIn description | Still describes the company as a leader in multifamily renovations on a nationwide scale |
| Search results | Sitelinks show Our Team, Locations, Washington, About Us, Contact Us and Full service construction solutions |
Opportunities
Reviews. Six reviews at 3.8 is a modest trust signal for local searches. Set up a steady review request to completed-project contacts and reply to every review. No incentives and no reviews posted on anyone's behalf.
Description and services. Update the profile description and services list to the current full-service positioning (restoration, maintenance, tenant improvements, renovations, special projects, ground-up construction), with Multifamily included as an important category alongside the others.
Service area. List only the active service markets and use the approved phrase "across our active service markets" in narrative copy.
Profile content. Post project updates and photos on a regular schedule so the profile shows recent activity.
Third-party profiles. Rewrite the LinkedIn and other directory descriptions so they match the refreshed website and no longer say multifamily-only or nationwide.
Name, address and phone consistency. Check the details across the website, Business Profile, LinkedIn, Houzz and directories and unify them.
Additional profiles. Create profiles for other markets only where there is a staffed, verifiable business address, because Google does not allow profiles for addresses without a real presence.
Local pages. City sections on the state pages (section 4) support the same local searches.
9Technical and on-page improvements
Performance optimization opportunity
The website was recently refreshed. No PageSpeed Insights or Core Web Vitals results were available for this review, and Google does not yet have enough real-user speed data for the site (mobile has too little data and desktop is not classified). The points below are crawl observations that show where performance can be improved further. They are not a finding that the refreshed site performs poorly.
Median HTML response time in the crawl is 2.1 seconds, with a maximum of 3.7 seconds.
Industry pages carry about 1 MB of HTML. The site loads 109 CSS files and 37 JavaScript files in total.
The 318 images weigh about 120 MB in total. 151 are over 300 KB and 9 are over 1 MB, so there is room to reduce image weight without changing how pages look.
Approach: first run PageSpeed Insights on the homepage, a service page, an industry page and a blog post to record a baseline. Then, where the results support it, compress and resize images, serve modern formats where supported, lazy-load below-the-fold images, remove unused CSS and scripts, enable caching and review server response time. Re-test after the changes and report the before and after results.
Blog titles and structure
The site has 93 blog posts. 82 have titles over 60 characters (the longest is 116), so titles are cut off in results.
83 posts have only 2 internal links pointing to them and sit up to 10 clicks from the homepage.
4 post URLs contain old years (2023, 2024, 2025).
Refinement: shorten titles to about 60 characters with no keyword stuffing and place secondary phrases in the meta description. Link posts from the relevant service and industry pages. Update or redirect posts with old years in the URL.
Meta descriptions and titles
11 pages have meta descriptions over 155 characters, including the homepage at 165.
The Services hub (120), Locations (116) and Carport Repair (119) metas are short and generic.
The Assisted Living service page and industry page have identical metas.
Structured data
Structured data is already in place on the live site: GeneralContractor, Organization and WebSite markup on every page, Service markup on the service pages, and WebPage and FAQ markup on the Industries pages. The work here is to keep it accurate and consistent with the pages and the Business Profile as content is refined.
Readability and copy
Service pages score between 14 and 50 on the Flesch reading ease scale. The target is about 50. Shorter sentences and plainer wording will lift this.
About 47 of the 93 blog posts centre on multifamily or apartments, and some use rental-only wording such as "tenant satisfaction". Multifamily content remains valuable. Where the topic allows, selected posts can be broadened so they also reach residential and commercial property audiences.
Heading and location wording is inconsistent ("in the USA" on some pages, "Phoenix, AZ" on others). Use one consistent way of stating each page's market.
Check that no page, meta description, schema, sitemap entry, image alt text, form or footer still refers to a market the company no longer serves.
10Internal linking and content opportunities
Internal linking
Every page has at least 2 internal links, so no page is isolated. The opportunity is depth and stronger support for the pages that matter most.
Link the three TI guides (tenant improvements vs renovations, the allowances guide and the comprehensive guide) to the TI service page, and link the service page back to each.
Link blog posts from the relevant service and industry pages so posts are no longer up to 10 clicks deep.
Strengthen links from the homepage, Services hub and Locations page to every state page and to the Commercial Properties page.
Link the informational guide on commercial contractors to the Commercial Properties page and the TI service page, since it holds most of the commercial impressions.
Link each primary service from the Services hub and from at least three relevant blogs, using descriptive anchor text that varies.
Content opportunities
The site already has strong guides that should not be rewritten: the tenant improvement allowances guide (2,506 words), the metal carport maintenance guide and the tenant improvements vs renovations guide. The primary service and industry pages were created or reworked in the refresh, so the actions below refine and expand them. The opportunities are these:
| Opportunity | Evidence | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial general contractor terms | Head terms at positions 10 to 12. "Commercial general contractor" alone has 2.9K searches a month. Impressions sit on an informational guide, with the Commercial Properties page not using the phrase | Refine the Commercial Properties page and the homepage to carry these terms, add focused supporting content and internal links from the homepage, Services hub, the guide and every state page. A separate supporting page is added only if these pages cannot serve the terms |
| Restoration and Insurance Put-Back | Under 45 impressions in Q3, early after the refresh. Lead phrases of 320 to 1.9K searches a month | Refine against the lead phrases and expand supporting content on the insurance claim and put-back process |
| Service Calls and Maintenance | 27 impressions in Q3, early after the refresh. Lead phrases of 260 to 880 searches a month | Refine toward commercial maintenance and preservation phrases and expand supporting content |
| Special Projects and Ground-Up | 26 and 15 impressions in Q3, early after the refresh | Align headings to the lead phrases, add project-based content and strengthen links from the Services hub |
| ADU Construction | 113 impressions at position 23.5. Lead phrases of 480 to 1.6K searches a month | Align the page to the lead phrases and add a supporting guide |
| City-level local content | Demand in Salt Lake City, Glendale, Peoria, Dallas, Austin, Houston and Washington State cities such as Bellevue, Seattle, Vancouver and Spokane | Add city sections to the matching state pages where a city is not already covered |
11Off-page SEO and authority building
| Measure | Current |
|---|---|
| Authority Score (Semrush) | 17 |
| Referring domains | 589 |
| Backlinks | About 3.5K |
Authority is low for a competitive commercial category. The plan below builds relevant, durable links, not volume.
Industry and association listings. Keep the existing listings such as AZ Multihousing and Construction Business Review current and make sure their descriptions match the website. Add relevant regional business and construction associations.
Project features. Place completed-project write-ups and case studies with local business and construction publications.
Supplier and manufacturer pages. Request listings and project mentions from suppliers and manufacturers the company works with.
Company news. Publish and distribute genuine news (new markets, completed projects, certifications).
Review of the existing link profile. Check the 589 referring domains for low-quality links before reporting link growth as a gain.
Unlinked mentions. Find mentions of the company without a link and request one.
12Competitor gaps
Competitor study is in two parts: the competitors identified by the team, and the sites Semrush shows competing for the same searches.
Competitors identified by the team
| Competitor | Next step |
|---|---|
| rockfordconstruction.net | Detailed study of services, markets, page structure and content |
| liveoakcontracting.com | Detailed study of services, markets, page structure and content |
| 360apartmentrenovations.com | Detailed study of services, markets, page structure and content |
| solutionsgc.com | Detailed study of services, markets, page structure and content |
A deeper study of these competitors will follow, covering their rankings, content and authority, so priorities can be adjusted against what they do well.
Search competitors in Semrush
Semrush shows several commercial contractors competing for the same commercial searches with a much larger organic footprint than Urban Complex, which has 536 ranking keywords and an estimated 443 monthly organic visits in the United States. This data reflects the site during and shortly after the refresh.
| Competitor | Ranking keywords | Est. monthly organic traffic | Keywords in common with Urban Complex |
|---|---|---|---|
| hillcommercial.com | 756 | 4.7K | 13 |
| renu.inc | 1K | 4K | 15 |
| gatewaybuildco.com | 845 | 2K | 16 |
| rimrock.us | 520 | 1.7K | 14 |
| reflectivecontracting.com | 1K | 1.3K | 14 |
| dbconstructiongrp.com | 792 | 1.3K | 18 |
| commercialcontractorlosangeles.com | 287 | 783 | 9 |

Where competitors are ahead
Traffic. Each of these sites earns roughly 2 to 10 times Urban Complex's estimated organic traffic.
Breadth. Five of the seven rank for 1.4 to 1.9 times as many keywords. Overlap with Urban Complex is only 9 to 18 keywords, so they win searches Urban Complex does not yet rank for.
Commercial positioning. Their sites are built around commercial general contracting and tenant improvement searches. Urban Complex's page-one rankings come mostly from its brand and a few niche service pages, while the refreshed core pages build their history.
How the plan closes the gap
Strengthening the pages that carry the commercial general contractor head terms already at positions 10 to 12.
Strengthening the tenant improvement cluster, where search volume is high and competition is low (difficulty scores of 0 to 15 for the main phrases).
Expanding state and city content for the markets where Urban Complex works.
Authority building through relevant listings and project features (section 11).
13AI search visibility
| Measure | Current (Semrush) |
|---|---|
| AI Visibility score | 14 |
| Brand mentions in AI answers | 2 |
| Pages cited by AI tools | 15 |
| AI crawler access | Not blocked. The robots.txt file allows AI crawlers |
How Urban Complex is understood and surfaced
The August refresh already improved the foundation for AI visibility. The clearer service structure, focused page content, better internal organization and structured data (Service and FAQ markup on the service and industry pages, with business details marked up site-wide) make it easier for AI tools to understand what Urban Complex does. The AI measures above are an early baseline taken shortly after the refresh.
The site is open to AI crawlers, so the limiting factor is the consistency of the company's description across the web and its third-party authority, not access.
Long, question-style searches already show the site at positions 2 to 8, so the content is relevant to how AI tools phrase searches. None of these convert to clicks yet.
The LinkedIn description still presents the company as a multifamily-focused, nationwide business, which does not match the refreshed website. Conflicting descriptions can lead to inconsistent AI summaries.
Fifteen pages are cited by AI tools and the company is mentioned twice, which is a small base to build from.
14Strengthening AI search visibility
With the foundation in place, the next phase focuses on consistency, authority, third-party mentions and ongoing optimization.
Keep one consistent description. Use the same wording for services, markets and positioning on the website, Business Profile, LinkedIn, Houzz and every directory listing.
Keep answering questions directly. On each primary service and industry page, review that it states plainly who the service is for, what it covers, how a project runs and what a property owner should expect, and refine where it does not.
Review and expand FAQ sections on the highest-value pages (tenant improvement, commercial properties, restoration and insurance, service calls) so they answer the questions owners and managers actually ask.
Use specific, verifiable detail. Real project types, markets and processes. AI tools favor content that other sources corroborate.
Maintain structured data. Keep Organization, service and local business markup consistent with the Business Profile and the pages as content changes.
Earn third-party mentions through the listings and features in section 11, because AI answers draw on sources outside the company's own site.
Keep AI crawlers allowed in robots.txt.
Track it. Record the Semrush AI Visibility score, mentions and cited pages every month. Every quarter, test a fixed set of prompts in ChatGPT and other assistants and record how Urban Complex is described and which sources are cited.
15Priority order and timeframes
The ranges below cover the working period for each step and when its effect usually starts to show. Search results depend on competition and Google's own timing, so these are planning ranges, not guarantees. Steps run in parallel where possible. Steps 1 and 2 start first because every later result depends on them. Page changes are released in small batches so effects can be traced. Multifamily pages and content are optimized throughout and remain an important category. The order reflects where current search data shows the largest near-term opportunity.
16What we need from Urban Complex
| Need | Why |
|---|---|
| Confirmed list of active service markets, with the timing for Idaho | Decides which state pages to strengthen and what the site may claim |
| Business addresses in each market (if any) and whether staff are present | Decides whether additional Business Profiles can be created |
| Approved project photos, project descriptions and permission to name clients or projects | Supports service pages, profile posts, AI visibility and links |
| Customer contacts to request reviews from, and who will send the requests | Reviews are currently 6 at a 3.8 rating |
| Decision on secondary services (pool, fence, painting): keep as they are or reduce | They stay live but are not a priority |

18How progress will be measured
Each measure below has a Q3 baseline and will be reported monthly, with a fuller review each quarter. For the refreshed service and industry pages, Q3 is an early baseline, and the aim for every measure is steady improvement on it.
